Last week, Year 2 had a very exciting visit from the Gatwick STEM Centre. We were thrilled because real engineers came to work with us! Before their visit, many of us thought Gatwick Airport was simply a place where planes take off and land. However, we learned that there are many other important jobs there too. Engineers help solve problems and work hard to look after the environment. One of our favourite activities was learning about water purification. We started with dirty water and worked together to try to clean it using different materials to filter it. We were amazed to see the water become clearer and it helped us understand how important clean water is and how fortunate we are to have access to it. We also made small electric cars using little motors and crocodile clips to connect the wires. We then used solar energy to power the batteries. When the propellers started spinning, we felt very proud because we had made them work using simple materials like cardboard and tape! We discovered that engineers do lots of clever and important things. It was a fantastic day that made many of us think about becoming engineers when we grow up. On Friday we celebrated World Book Day and it was fantastic to see so many creative costumes and such a real love of books across the school!
